Almost two years ago before I found Radiant, I worked for a company with absolutely no company culture. No smile and no communication, it was pure misery!
On my first day of work at this (unnamed) company, I was taken to my desk and not introduced to anyone. There I was sitting in a cube with no one to talk to staring across the room at complete strangers. I made several attempts to make eye contact at people in hope of starting a conversation, however, I failed miserably. If you know me, silence is rare in my repertoire and speaking to strangers, well anyone at all is my defense mechanism. Sitting alone in silence was torture. Months went by and I had spoken to only three people in a company of over one hundred and sixty. I went to my desk everyday and the only slight interaction I had was listening to a woman sing out loud. First of all, this is extremely strange. Second of all, who has the nerve to sing out loud in a room full of working professionals but not come over to talk to the new girl? Just when I was about to give up all hope, I was in the break room making coffee and finally someone came up to me and started a friendly conversation. I was so excited I may have gotten a tear in my eye… human interaction! Someone finally wanted to talk to me. I thought to myself, “Where has she been for the last three months?” We made small talk for about two minutes and then I realized that neither did she want to talk to me nor was she interested in what I had to say. She was really just trying to sell me Mary Kay! I was so disappointed and crushed. It was then that I decided that my next job would be in a friendly environment and that the most important thing would be company culture. That is when I found Radiant. I know that I am going to sound a little extreme, perhaps like I drank the “Kool-Aid,” but believe me when I say that I have never been in a room with so many hard working, outgoing, friendly, intelligent people in my life. The culture at Radiant is something out of my dreams. Everyone smiles at you when walking down the hall, they speak to you in the break room and they work together with you on projects. Everyone believes in Radiant’s vision and what we stand for and it is reflected in our atmosphere. The mere fact that I know no one will steal my parking spot, I can always count on someone to hold the door and that I will be greeted every day by a smile makes me wake up excited to go to work and strive to succeed.
Our Vision: To be a remarkable company first to work for; then to buy from; and finally, to invest in.
What makes you excited about getting up and going to work each day?
What a difference attitude makes! And it shows through in everything you do – so having it embedded in your company culture is definitely a positive sign. Hopefully most companies realize they attitude of their employees projects the attitude of the company and it will be noticed by prospective clients and employees alike.
Liking the people you work is probably just as important, if not more important, than liking what you’re working on. Many people will put up with boring or annoying projects if they like the people they are working with – but even the best project can be completely spoiled by an “unfortunate” co-worker.
